The interim board of Lepelle Northern Water welcomes Monday’s final judgment by the Gauteng High Court that in effect instates them in the positions with which they have been entrusted upon their appointments on 29 May this year after the term of the outgoing board had lapsed. The ruling sets aside an urgent application by the suspended Chief Executive Officer of Lepelle Northern Water, Mr. Phineas Legodi, who was put on precautionary suspension on 2 June 2020 pending an investigation. The chairperson of the Board Mr. Joe Mathebula emphasized that the board will not be deterred from dealing with acts of maladministration and corruption in the Lepelle Northern Water. There are ongoing investigations that are being considered by board from the SIU, the Public Protector and other agencies.
The stability of the institution remains the key focus of the Interim Board. The board intends to normalize its relationship with stakeholders particularly the Municipalities. In due course the board will resolve the long outstanding matters regarding the debts owed by the Municipalities
