Area of Supply

LNW’s area of supply covers approximately 80,000 square kilometres within the 125 754 square kilometres of Limpopo Province’s surface area which is 64%. LNW is currently providing bulk water in 42% of its mandated 80 000 square kilometres which is equivalent to about 56% of the province.

Regional representation within its service area
While the head office of the organisation is in the city of Polokwane, regional management is maintained at various district municipalities to ensure strategic oversight and maintenance of close interactions with respective municipal technical teams

Ebenezer

  • Situated approximately 70km east of the Polokwane Municipal area.
  • Water is abstracted from the Ebenezer Dam.
  • Supplies potable water to Haenertsburg (Mopani District) and Polokwane Local Municipality consumers.
  • Plant capacity – 56 Mâ„“/day
  • Raw water allocation: 16 000 Mâ„“/annum (44 Mâ„“/day)
  • Present consumption: 17 031 Mâ„“/annum (46.66 Mâ„“/day)

Olifantspoort

  • Situated approximately 50km East of Lebowakgomo in the Lepelle Nkumpi Local Municipality.
  • Water abstracted from a weir in the Olifants River and the scheme is dependent on water stored in the Flag Boshielo Dam, 73km upstream from the weir.
  • Supplies potable water to the Polokwane Municipal area, the rural villages in the Lepelle Nkumpi Municipality area and the peri-urban town of Lebowakgomo.
  • Plant capacity – 60 Mâ„“/day.
  • Raw water allocation: 15 000 Mâ„“/annum (41 Mâ„“/day)
  • Present consumption: 22 070 Mâ„“/annum (60.5 Mâ„“/day)

Doorndraai

  • Situated about 38km South West of Mokopane town in the Mogalakwena Local Municipality.
  • Water abstracted from the Doorndraai Dam.
  • Supplies potable water to the Mogalakwena Municipality.
  • Plant capacity – 12 Mâ„“/day
  • Raw water allocation: 4 380 Mâ„“/annum (12 Mâ„“/day)
  • Present consumption: 4 924 Mâ„“/annum (13.5 Mâ„“/day)

Phalaborwa

  • Situated 17km south of the town of Phalaborwa in the Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality.
  • Water is abstracted from the Olifants River.
  • Supplies potable water to Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, and semi treated/ industrial and/or raw water to the mines and other industrial users through networks dedicated to each type of water supplied.
  • Plant capacity – 150 Mâ„“/day of which 76 Mâ„“lday can be purified to potable standards.
  • Raw water allocation: 64 000 Mâ„“/annum (175 Mâ„“/day)
  • Present consumption: 36 661 Mâ„“/annum (109 Mâ„“/day)

Politsi

  • Situated about 9km from the town of Modjadjiskloof in the Mopani District.
  • Water is abstracted from the Magoebaskloof Dam.
  • Supplies potable water to Magoebaskloof and the Ga-kgapane area in the Mopani District.
  • Plant capacity – 6.5 Mâ„“/day
  • Raw water allocation: 3 600 Mâ„“/annum (9.86 Mâ„“/day)
  • Present consumption: 1 856 Mâ„“/annum (6.19 Mâ„“/day)

LNW has entered into a bulk service agreement for 12 months with the Greater Sekhukhune District Municipality for the operations and maintenance of the schemes in the following municipalities while the longer-term contract is still being discussed:

Greater Tubatse Local Municipality

  • Situated in the South-Eastern part of the Limpopo Province
