Lepelle Northern Water targeted in cybercrime attack

This serves as notice to alert the public that Lepelle Northern Water has recently been targeted in what appears to be an orchestrated cybercrime attack. The matter is under Police investigation following a case of fraud, misrepresentation and corruption immediately instituted upon it having been discovered in mid-January.

It followed the issuing of appointment letters under false pretense in response to a tender bid for the supply and delivery of personal clothing and equipment that was advertised earlier. After thorough investigations it was established that a bogus email account was used to forward communication from a foreign entity in the name of a Lepelle Northern Water employee.

Lepelle Northern Water hereby advises that the organisation has not been in contact with any bidder in relation to the tender and never issued any appointment letters regarding the bid either.

As the case is under investigation no further information can be divulged at this stage.
